The term ‘Morning suit’ originated from the practice of upper class men of the 19th Century riding their horses in the morning, in a suit that had a cut away jacket front and was single breasted, to allow ease of movement whilst still looking smart. The two buttons at the back of the jacket originally allowed the wearer to open the front quarters of the tail of the jacket to keep it in place during riding.
